Some degree of stress and anxiety are a part of everyone’s life. A small amount of stress can actually be beneficial, helping you to be more efficient, avoid boredom and achieve many of your aim(s).
However, the early hours of darkness coupled with stress and anxiety of the holidays can overwhelm you and prevent you from enjoying the spirit of this wonderful time of year. An effective way to maintain a confident and positive outlook during this time of year is to take a brisk walk, visit your local gym or club and work out (will optimist realistic know-how, overtime unstresses tension). While committing to this routine you will also address streams of emotions that make their way into your consciousness and impede your sense of well being.
Confident and Positive Perspective
At the heart of a sense of well being are your conscious thoughts. How you think and the way you feel about yourself and your relation to others during this time of year can make a world of difference if you maintain a confident and positive perspective. For instance, notice how you feel about these statements, look at each statement, then say each while closing your eyes taking a deep breath through your nose and repeat while breathing out your mouth.
How do these statements make you feel when you say them with conviction?
Quietness of Mind
Taking a time for silence will also help you clear your mind of thoughts that may be interfering with you enjoying this time of year. Choose a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. I know this may be difficult; however I’m sure you will be able to find a place. Sit in a comfortable position, feet flat on the floor, and close your eyes. Concentrate your attention only on your breathing.
Become aware of the soft sensations of your breath as the air flows in through your nose and out of your mouth. As thoughts and images come into your mind, let them come and go without examining them. Your aim is to reach a state of silence without being distracted by particular thoughts or feelings. Be patient with yourself. The benefits of silence are subtle but important. Use this time to clear your mind of any negative or critical thoughts. However, if the fear of gaining weight is contributing to your tension, understanding the role of working out may help.
